New York is the city that never sleeps, but lately, Miami never stops moving – not for a second. With endless summer weather and environment and a landscape that blends oceanfront pathways, shaded parks, historic neighborhoods, and island‑hopping bridges, it’s one of the most beautiful and scenic places in the country to run or walk. Whether you’re training for a competition, getting in your daily steps, or just exploring the city at a relaxed pace, Miami offers routes that make even your shortest workout memorable. Here are our favorite 5 Scenic Running and Walking Routes in Miami.

From sunrise miles along the water to quiet, tree‑covered trails tucked inside the city’s oldest neighborhoods, here are what we believe are the five most beautiful and accessible routes for runners and walkers. And if you’re looking for even more places to explore, the Greater Miami & Miami Beach Visitor’s Bureau recommends several additional paths that offer their own unique views and experiences.

Full disclosure: Endless Summer Fitness advocates low-impact exercises, such as walking, swimming, cycling, skating, and rowing, especially for 40+ year old hybrid athletes. We’re not big on long-distance running because of the long-term stress it places on your joints. However, ESF does support light sprinting. We believe that short, explosive, low-volume, high-rest movements place far less strain on your joints.

But ESF does appreciate that not every hybrid athlete believes in training in the same way. For this reason, this article highlights parks ideal for walking, running, and sprinting.

  1. South Beach Beachwalk

We love the Miami Beachwalk, with its coastal ocean views. Starting at South Pointe Park Pier, this oceanfront path stretches north for miles, passing sandy beaches, Art Deco hotels, and palm‑lined views that feel straight out of a postcard. The wide, smooth walkway makes it ideal for both runners and walkers, and the sunrise here is unmatched. With water fountains and restrooms along the way, it’s one of the easiest and most enjoyable routes in the city.

  1. Coconut Grove Waterfront Path

If you want a much quieter scene, try Coconut Grove, which offers a more shaded, less crowded experience along Biscayne Bay. Beginning at Peacock Park, the route winds past the marina and through tree‑covered streets lined with banyan trees. The combination of water views, greenery, and historic charm makes this a favorite for anyone who prefers a peaceful, scenic loop. It’s short, calm, and perfect for easy miles or relaxed walks.

  1. Key Biscayne + Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

For walkers, sprinters, and runners who want to feel closer to nature, Key Biscayne delivers. Starting in Crandon Park and continuing into Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, this route blends beach paths, palm groves, and wildlife sightings with views of the iconic Cape Florida Lighthouse. The terrain varies from paved to sandy, giving you a mix of challenge and serenity. It’s one of Miami’s most beautiful outdoor escapes.

  1. Venetian Causeway

The gorgeous Venetian Causeway (our favorite of all Miami causeways) connects Miami Beach to the mainland through a chain of small islands, creating a route that feels both peaceful and scenic. With waterfront homes, historic bridges, and skyline views in every direction, it’s a favorite for runners and walkers who want a quiet, steady path without heavy crowds. The gentle rises and long straightaways make it great for consistent pacing.

  1. Rickenbacker Causeway

If you’re looking for big open views and a bit of challenge, the Rickenbacker Causeway will make you expend energy, for sure. Starting near Alice C. Wainwright Park, the route takes you across the bridge toward Key Biscayne, offering sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and Downtown Miami. The incline provides a solid workout, and the wide path accommodates both runners and walkers. It’s especially popular at sunrise, when the sky lights up over the water.

More Scenic Alternatives

(Recommended by the Greater Miami & Miami Beach Visitors Bureau)

But there is no need to stop there; if you’re exploring beyond the top five, Miami has even more routes worth adding to your rotation. These five alternatives offer variety, shade, nature, and unique views — all recommended by the Greater Miami & Miami Beach Visitors Bureau.

The Underline

Similar to the New Yor highline, but the path is under the train tracks. A linear park beneath the Metrorail, The Underline offers shaded paths, fitness stations, and easy access from Brickell to Dadeland. It’s a convenient, urban route perfect for weekday miles.

Oleta River State Park

This spot is perfect for short-burst sprinting and is located in North Miami Beach. Oleta is the city’s go‑to spot for off‑road running and walking. The trails wind through mangroves and forested areas, offering a rugged, nature-rich experience.

Tropical Park

With a 2‑mile loop, lakeside paths, and a full running track, Tropical Park is a versatile option for intervals, long runs, or relaxed walks. It’s a favorite community with plenty of space to move. The loop is very cool!

Matheson Hammock Park Trail

Shaded, quiet, and full of lush vegetation, Matheson Hammock offers a scenic route with glimpses of Biscayne Bay. The coral rock terrain and canopy‑covered paths make it ideal for midday outings. This place feels totally different from what we know as Miami.

Amelia Earhart Park

This 500‑acre park in Hialeah features a mix of dirt trails, paved loops, and lakeside views. It’s spacious, relaxed, and great for both solo workouts and group runs. Totally relaxing and a great choice for walking, especially, but running and sprinting are still very encouraged.
